About Aaron...
Aaron Mcilroy
Aaron McIlroy is one of South Africa’s most popular entertainers, with a string of stage blockbusters under his belt in both the public and corporate entertainment circuits. These include, his award winning satires, The Loser co-written and directed by Susan Monteregge, The Golfer co-written and directed by Steven Stead and ADHD, co-written and directed by Patrick Kenny.
Aaron also stars as the lunatic father, Mr Milton in the Spud movie franchise.
As Macbob Productions, Aaron often teams up with his wife and professional partner, actress Lisa Bobbert with their hit musical comedies Family Therapy, Go Big, Bulletproof and Mr & Mrs Normal
co-written and directed by Daisy Spencer as well as their popular Marriage for Dummies and Abbamaniacs - their hugely popular tribute to the Swedish super group, Abba.
Recent productions include Classical Comedy, staring the Durban City Orchestra as well as Family Business both directed by Darren King and staged at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre in Durban.
Aaron is a skilled communicator and public speaker. His presentation, ‘Laughter in Leadership’ - speaks into the often untapped resource of laughter as an essential tool for life in leadership. With Aarons distinctive comedic style, Laughter in Leadership provides the tools and practices for teams to stay dynamic, joyful and fruitful even in challenging times.
As a comedian and master of ceremonies he is notorious for getting audiences' abs aching and tears of mirth rolling. Director Susan Monteregge credits him for "single-handedly transforming theatre into an extreme sport”.
"I grew up in the entertainment industry” says Aaron,”my father was a member of the popular Irish band, the Blarney Brothers. I love music but I really wanted to be a serious actor. I even studied drama at university but every time I performed something vaguely dramatic my lecturers would fall off their chairs. After much humiliation I realised that the only way I was going to make some cash in this industry was to embrace my funny bone!”
The one-man comedy/drama, A Vegan Killed My Marriage, written and directed by Craig Freimond received a prestigious Bronze Ovation Award at the 2023 National Arts Festival in Makhanda.
